How to Become a Licensed Esthetician in Michigan

Step 1: Make Sure You’re Eligible

Meet these basic requirements:

• Must be at least 16 years old at the start of the program and 17 years old to take the State Board Licensing exam
• Must have a high school diploma, GED, or recognized equivalent

Step 2: Enroll in Our 750-Hour Esthetics Program

At Michigan College of Beauty, our 750-hour Esthetics Program is designed to give you a strong foundation in skincare through theory, hands-on learning, and client experiences.

Step 3: Get Real-World Experience in Our Student Spa

You’ll gain experience working with clients under the guidance of our licensed instructors. All services in the student spa are provided by students under the supervision of licensed professionals.

Step 4: Apply for Licensure in Michigan

Once you’ve completed and graduated from our 750-hour esthetics program, you can submit your application for state licensure exams. Our career counselor can assist you through the process.

2. Submit your application. once your account is set up.
3. Pay the application and exam fees. required before scheduling.
4. Schedule your state exams through PSI Exams. to lock in your test dates.

Step 5: Sit for Your Michigan State Board Exams

To become licensed in Michigan, you’ll need to sit for both the Practical and Written exams.

Step 6: Receive Your License

Once you complete both exams, you’ll receive your official esthetician license from the State of Michigan. You’ll be legally allowed to work in salons, spas, or med spas, or even open your own business.

Step 7: Renew Your License Every Two Years

Michigan esthetician licenses must be renewed every two years. A renewal notification will be sent to both your mailing and email address on file approximately 90 days prior to your license expiration date.
